The speedo is only labeled to 135 mph, but there is another mark where 145 mph would be. I believe it was Car and Driver who reported top speed as 141 mph. I have seen the final mark on several occasions, but as Saaber mentioned, speedos are not accurate. I am not sure why the percentage of error would go up with increasing speed though? Of course the error in terms of absolute mph goes up. On my speedo there is a lable reading W = .026, which if my estimation is correct, means 2.6%, which is just how far my speedo is off. (confirmed by using a stopwatch and the mileage markers on the highway) So, if the speedo is reading 145 mph, that's extremely close to 141 mph. Anyhow.
I agree that if this guy has hit the last mark and claims he is still pulling, that yes, he's done some pretty significant modifications to obtain a good deal more HP, he's going downhill (steep one at that), or he's got a hurricane on his back. Or all of the above. Once you get over 110 or maybe 120 mph, 'pulling' is not exactly the phrase I'd use to describe the amount of acceleration on level roads. It's an excercise in patience and hopefully very light or no traffic. Still, the fact that the 9000 can even go 141mph at all with only 160 HP, is a testament to the aerodynamic efficiency of it's design.
