Synchros are never easy to replace. You have to remove the trans, disassemble it quite a bit, remove the gear from the shaft, then remove and replace the synchronizer assembly, then put it all back together. The parts shouldn't be all that expensive (I would hope no more than $50). You're stuck with Saab's parts. And forget about getting a used one, as most second gear synchros from Saab 9000 trannies will be shot, at least from the pre-94 model years. It's a lot of work, and you sure don't want to put a used one in.

This is best done when pulling the trans out to replace the clutch. It's also a good time to completely drain the trans oil and replace it with the Saab synthetic.
