I am under the impression that the '86 9000 didn't come with adjustable seat heaters - just the old 900 style non-adjustable kind.
The adjustable and non-adjustable heaters work very differently. In the non-adjustable (older 900, and I believe '86 9000), just 12 volts and ground go to the seat. There is a themoSWITCH in the seat in series with the seat heater. Below a certain temp (50F???) the switch closes and the heater warms up. Above a certain temp (80f???) the switch opens. 12 volts goes to the heater whenever the ignition is on. (Plus a occupancy switch on the passenger side).
In the adjustable seat heaters, there is no thermoswitch. Instead, there is a thermoSENSOR (temperature-variable resistor). So now there are THREE wires coming out of the seat: Ground, the high side of the heater wire, and the sensor. The sensor and heater high side go to the controller. The controller measures the temperature of the seat (via the sensor), and uses a relay to apply power to the seat heater (if the temp is below the setting on the controller).
Bottom line - the controllers have no place to go in a '86 9000. You could retrofit the seats (or just seat heaters) out of a newer 9000, and add the wiring.
Sorry.
