....I recently stopped to help a colleague who had the hood of his
9000 open in the parking lot. Sure enough, S-belt had a few strands
missing and had come off the pulley. The belt was still intact, so
I decided we should try to put it back on. We were at a trade school,
so there were some tools available. After taking off the inner wheel
liner, we tried using the clamp method, but to no avail. Finally, I
decided to put a breaker bar on the bolt that goes thru the center of
the pulley (it's reverse thread) and used the bar as a lever to collapse
the hydraulic shock - worked beautifully, but there were two sets of
hands involved: mine providing the torque force and his to put the
belt back on. He managed to get the car back home where he
replaced the belt with a new one.
