If your 93 CSE is the same as my 93 CSEt (you have the Clarion 2-part unit with the tape and the CD/EQ seperate?):
My fronts are powered by a small amp that is integrated into the back of the Clarion unit. I don't remember the wattage off the top of my head - do you have the Saab Audio Systems Manual that came with your car? There is also a line-out signal from the unit that feeds into a small factory amp sitting under the passanger seat. The manual said "50 watts max" so I'm quick calculating (50 max / 2 ~~ 25 RMS / 2 = 12 watts per channel or so). So you can see that it is quite underpowered. Remember, this amp only drives the rears, the fronts are driven off the radio. If you want to put the fronts on a better amp you will need to either get a new head unit, or get a 4-channel amp and connect 2 of the channels to the front, by running new wiring to the front speakers. I'm personally happy with the sound in my car that I got from replacing the factory amp with a cheap Pioneer amp - it puts out about 35 watts per channel. I removed the factory amp, ran a power cable from the battery (through a large rubber plug behind the driver's footwell into the passanger compartment and under the carpet), ran a grounding wire to the seatpost bolts, cut off the round and square connectors to the factory amp and spliced 'em into the new amp (the round connecter-ended cable has the preamp signal inside it somewhere, strip all the wires and test with a pair of headphones to find 'em) (the square ended cable has the wires to the rear speakers, and the origonal power wires - the origonal power wires are way too small to safely run an aftermarket amp, but the speaker wires seem fine to me). I still haven't found a place to splice the trigger wire into yet, but still looking - right now I just manually turn the amp on/off by connecting the trigger to the battery power. I'm happy with the sound level right now, but not the bass... I'm eventually going to put a nice efficent 10 or 12-inch woofer in the back on a single-channel sub amp, and cut out the low-freqs to the rear 6x9's, which should increase their sound quality as well. Let me know if you have more questions!
