In my case, I believe the reservoir and/or the two rods were damaged during transit when I was stranded 500 miles from NJ, in Columbus, OH this past summer (Because of my intermediate shaft failed, due to my own carelessness. It is a long story.). I think the flat bed operator did it when he either loaded the vehicle onto the flatbed or unloaded it.
The reservoir has a slight crack, about 1/4" where the rear rod was attached. Same as you did, I patched it with the reservoir installed. I did it because when I removed it for inspection, that particular rod has a very slight give, or rather it could be rotated about its axis. I didn't want to take the chance to patch it up with the reservoir removed and find out that tightening the rod to the frame would loosened the hardened epoxy to cause it to leak again. I rather patch it up installed and let it cure and harden.
