First, I would certainly try something like JB Weld (though I've never used it) and keep a real careful eye on level and leakage.
Next, where I live (coastal Vancouver Island) aluminum boat builders would have little difficulty in welding a patch in situ.
Last, I would do the "proper" job.
That's just me, mind you, with a lot of things running without store-bought replacements.
