...is that temp never gets up to thermostat spec (194°F) in this cooler weather, which had me thinking for a while that the 'stat was stuck open. I'm reading with my VDO water temp gauge, the sender being located downstream of the 'stat on the upper rad hose, not in the block where it ideally should be. I gave up on that idea since I could find no available port in the block, at least without removing something else.
But the heater warms up fast enough, so I now have second thoughts about the stuck-thermostat idea. Plus, when the temp does start to climb it does so fairly forthrightly, indicating the 'stat probably is working. It may get up to only about 180° or so in colder weather (say 40°F, which is cold for us) after quite a few miles of driving. The EDU gauge, of course, is no help since it is filtered in the bowels of the EDU electronics and rarely shows anything other than about 40% of the white range.
What's interesting is that Quasi, who installed a VDO gauge with sender located in the block where the original was, says his hasn't been getting up to full temp in winter either. His 'stat should have the same specs as mine.

- Yeah, but my wife's 93 never does that. Nor did any of my 900's, jmike , Thu, 21 Dec 2000 13:39:05
