Are you kidding? I lost over $3K for one year's ownership... and that does not include insurance and normal maintenance. After I bought my car for $5,700 (mistake number one) in Sept. 2000, I put in a new A/C system (about $2,000 all in), a new ACCII unit, interior temp. sensor and heated seat components (cost, about $600). Then, I put in new upgrade brakes {cross-drilleds, pads, etc.} - (okay, maintenance items), and suspension parts (non-maintenance in my view-at least not at this point in their lifespan). There are other dollars I spent on repairing normal stuff that should not have failed (headlamp wiper motors). The stuff I listed above was all noted and reflected in the purchase price of the car at $5,700. So, when I received my first offer from my insurance company, I was shocked. I had to share the receipts for the new transmission, turbo, timing chain, exhaust, and so forth that the previous owner had installed in the last 20,000 or so miles.
Anyway, I am not getting "taken" again. If I don't get the car at what I think is a fair price, I guess I will have to wait. Surely somebody out there needs to cover a margin call this week. :)
