I thought the same thing, but I managed to get a "Check Engine" light and dump the codes. One of the codes was loss of signal from crank-angle sensor, which I promptly dismissed as irrelevant.
Turns out after much frustration and a huge towing bill, that the crank-angle sensor ages out pretty poorly. This problem is typically HEAT related, as the sensor heat-soaks and begins to fail.
This may be irrelevant to your observed problem, as you don't mention "Check Engine" lights or codes. If the "Check Engine" light is known to be working, then I'm full of beans. If, however, you're unsure of your EDU's bulbs, it might be worth it to look into a TCAS readout and see if "Crank Angle" shows up as a fault.
Then again, I replaced BOTH of the fuel pumps on my old Volvo wagon before figuring out that my Mass Airflow Sensor had quit. Grrrr....
Hope this helps,
Ben
