I just pulled it out. I wish every operation was as simple as that on this car. I spent twice as long just changing two turn signal bulbs last night. Anyway, I think the master itself is fine (or was) but the top of the shaft that connects to the pedal looks to have been wearing hard against the cylinder housing or something- it is rubbed down significantly, and there is one place where some of the steel has built up on the shaft- I suspect this is my problem. Is this master trashed? It still moved the fluid fine- I suppose I could just file down the abberations and stick it back in, but is the shaft sealed on that end in any way? I also wonder how the pedal travel got out of wack enough to make the shaft rub... Both of the pedal linkages are tight with no ovaling of the holes, as is where the pedal mounts to the cylinder. The sheet metal is sound, no rust or signs of warpage, and all of the mounting bolts were tight. Does it just wear there, and eventually fail?
