Hi guys -

On the Bay Area CL is a '78 99T for pretty cheap. I was seriously considering buying this, but after some really hard consideration I think I am going to pass, so I thought I'd let folks here know. I have not personally seen the car, but Damien S took a look at it for me last night, even took it for a test drive.

It needs slight body work - truly just the RR fender. Paint on horizontal surfaces is bad. No obvious rust anywhere, underside looks very clean. Front airdam is wrecked, grille is in less than perfect shape. Bumpers are intact but very faded. Tail light lenses are ancient and cracked. Original Incas, original "SAAB TURBO" script on the side. Interior is good/original. Driver's seat has been replaced with an aftermarket "racing" seat. Headliner is falling. It has an optional S&R steering wheel and the optional lower center console. Still has the factory stereo in the console. Owner says that South Bay Saab (San Jose) rebuilt the engine in 2007, which is a STUNNING accomplishment. Probably the last B20T parts on earth are in that engine! Damien says it drives well, shifts well. Only thing he noticed on his short test drive was bogging down under throttle, but based on his description it's probably the warmup regulator or some other CIS malfunction. It passed smog three months ago, but I don't know if that cert is still valid or if it needs to be retested.

Guy has some pictures on flickr, and Damien took a bunch more last night I can post or email for an interested party. I really want this car, but it's paint needs are more than I can handle right now. I think it is VERY much worth the asking price... I mean, how often does a running/driving original 99T pop up for sale?

I'm happy to help facilitate a long distance purchase if necessary, just hit me up.
