Jon, yes you can do it as Doug suggests. It is a pretty easy job. A few cans of brake cleaner will easily remove the old grease. I would reccomend getting your boots from JC Whitney. They have an improved lifetime cv boot that is a universal one that fits perfectly. It comes with grease and bands, and sells for $10.99. You could do all four for less than $60 including the brake cleaner, and get better boots. For the small inner clip, you can rent the banding tool from Autozone for free. These boots have been in my '72 for about 8 years, and look like I just put them in. Best of luck.
