Hi all...thanks for the responses.
Doug: I've been told that I have a two-key car and I tend to agree. But regardless, I have to either drill out & replace the cylinder or get a different shifter assembly because the cylinder won't turn.
With surprising and measurable fanfare ("Is that from a Volvo?"), I was finally able to take the assembly to Bulger Safe & Lock in the Lake City area of Seattle.
They quoted me $100 & a half-day's work to remove & re-key the cylinder.
I didn't have the cash at the time, but I thanked them and left satisfied that *some* progress had been made.
Tspoto: The locksmith on Cap was recommended to me by the folks at Scanwest, so I will definitely take it there as well when I have some time.
And wherever I get it done, I'll use the steel blanks. Also, I was able to find my original steel key blank.
A totally different side note:
I just started a new job selling cars at Bill Pierre Ford in Seattle's Lake City neighborhood...woot! I took a look at a 2008 Saab 9-3 that's on our lot and I must say that I prefer the fit, feel & finish of my 2002 9-3.
Thanks again to all!
Peace.
