Stephen,

I guess my first suggestion would be that if the 2 systems you mention are working, you might want to consider leaving them in place for a couple of reasons. First, they actually do work to reduce emissions/pollution. Second (for the EGR), you can run more spark advance with EGR and therefore possibly get better fuel economy.

The pulse air system is working if you hear the check valves "chattering" at low-mid rpm under light acceleration. The EGR is usually a matter of making sure all the vacuum hoses are tight and intact and then cleaning the valve and the orifice in the exhaust manifold per the service manual. The one thing that does go wrong with the EGR is the thermal switch in the cylinder head tends to fail closed. I just have mine bypassed with a double-ended nipple connected to the two hoses and all works fine.

So, originality, cleaner air, and better mileage - what more could you want?

Just 2 cents....

If you do decide to remove them I'll take the parts off your hands as spares. Should just be a matter of capping the ports in the exhaust manifold (for both systems) and putting a plate over the EGR valve mounting. Then just cap off all the vacuum ports and you should be able to mechanically remove all the stuff.

Good Luck!

Gary
