Yes, that is the part. The heater hoses run coolant through it and I did have over heating problems while I had the car on the road which required the fan to be permanently on. I had the heater core boiled and pressure tested by a radiator shop while it was out and it had partial blockage as well, so I bet my over heating problem won't be as bad as it was. :)

I'm not sure of what the purpose of having hot coolant heating up the air intake would do .. or is it cool air intaking cooling down the hot coolant? Pre-heater? But the engine has to be on for a while for it to work that way. The other pre-heaters I've seen are electric and are on the intake tube.
