From my exposure/collection of 900s, 86 SPG was the first year of ventilated front brakes. I have an 86 turbo without ventilated front brakes. 85 SPGs also had non-ventilated front brakes.
Front brakes from 86 SPGs and 87 turbo (including SPG) are the preferred upgrade for 99s to be able to keep the old style wheel bolt pattern.
Wilwood front brakes will bolt up to these assemblies. A custom bracket allows you to run Wilwood rear calipers.
I agree with reusing the shorter front axles from the 99s.
