Scott, you've got two problems...The one you had, and the one you got from working on the shifter.First off, DO NOT start this car without it being properly Jacked up with the wheels removed. You may think it is in neutral, but it won't be, and your car may take off in reverse (happened to me once). Your original problem, is a frozen/bad/Mis-adjusted clutch disk.Try this...remove the shifter assembly hold down nuts, and try to get the shifter to go back in in a locked reverse position. Install the nuts loosely, but don't tighten (hopefully that will cover your reverse interlock work, and no damage done) With it jacked up, remove your clutch cover. Start the car, and observe the clutch as someone else engages/releases the clutch. Don't have them try to shift it. You will see that is where your problem lies. You may just have to adjust your Throw-out bearing at the adjustment rod(8mm wrench). Try getting a mallot and a length of 2x4 and wacking the pressure plate a few times. You can try spraying down the clutch with wd40 to free it up as well. Once free, De-grease with simple green and a hose ASAP. You may then perform all clutch/ shifter adjustments as described in the manual. A frozen clutch can take out a worn slave cylinder, plan on a clutch job with a slave.
Best of luck, Kevin
