Ed,

The 900 fuse box does fit in..perfectly. The noted difference is just the nose.; hence a 900 is really a 99B.

When I did the conversion years ago, I planted the 900 fuse box in the same location in the 99, yet being the 99 does not have the three square cut out- I modified a bit.

I cut a large hole at the "head" of the at the 900 fuse box; to allow the wiring harnesses to have alternative outlet.( seal the three square holes properly for water.) I then drilled with a "whole saw" cut in the 99's upper metal corner area to allow the three harnesses in ..Makes sure you place a thick grommet at the cut, and seal around the wires with that black gummy putty for prevention of moisture between the inner wheel and the cabin.

It makes perfect sense to transport the whole harness. As for behind the dashboard, you can study the guages and simply cut the 900 harness that goes into the instrument cluster and connect on to the 99 guages.

As for the AC, the clearance is very, very tight. When I did the conversion, I had about 1/2 of inch between the tranny and lower cross member which was trimmed; and about a 1/4 of inch between the hood and cylinder head.

What I feel I did wrong was use the 900 mounts. Perhaps If I had used the 99 mounts and the 99 brackets, it would have worked a bit better. I also had problems with the brake booster and the belts were so close to the "cut back and rewelded firewall) On top of that, when I had driven the car, I would experience the engine shifting or rocking side to side.

On hindsight, I ruined a lovely, solid body 99 GLE for this conversion. The car eventually was hit when parked, and eventually went to the scrap yard. I later bought another 1978 GLE, and could not believe how smooth and quick(no turbo lag) that stock B engine was after the conversion to the 4 speed manual.

I don't know If I 'll ever do a conversion again. The 16valve is so shoehorned in the bay, that maintenance of the belts is quite a "pita".

When I truly want turbo on a 99, I rather seek a B engine Turbo, and perhaps change the bigger turbo to a later style to decrease the lag.

Good luck.

P.S. I've seen a couple of sites..I'll fire you two photos.

Cheers
