I'm not sure is this is relevant to you Justin, but I learnt a very expensive lesson about 6 years ago when I mixed 50% Avgas (Aviation fuel aprox 110RON I think) with standard Super (Leaded). The Valve stems became pitted due to the differnt burn pattern caused by such a high octane and I dropped a valve on the Number three pot of my 99t. The actual Valve broke away from its stem.
The valve was sodium filled, which would not be in your 72 model.
I don't think the B motors delivered to Australian had hardened valve seats, please correct me if I'm wrong, and I'm not sure how quickly the head may be affected
