My new mechanic* got it out. Took him 3 hours and he finally had to cut it out with a dremel tool. Apparently, someone used some thread sealant that is virtually impossible to break once it's dried. What bozos!
Anyway, I now have a nice STEEL square drive plug with a big powerful magnet and a tranny full of MTL. Thanks for all your good suggestions!
*Okay, I finally found a mechanic in Topeka, Kansas that is excited about helping me with my '67 96. I knew I was in the right place when I walked in and there sat a perfect 1952 Jaguar XK120 roadster he had been intrusted with and he walked out to look at my tranny plug and said, "Wow, what a beauty! What year is it?"
Damn that felt good after all the typical, "we don't work on those" smirks I've been getting around here. Finally, some RESPECT!
My Saab
