Jim's points are also well taken. I guess I was never a true 2-stroke fan, although I owned two of them - a '64 96 and a '59 93. When the V-4 first came out, I was more than willing to make the switch from 2-stroke. I was doing a lot of daily highway driving at the time, and the V-4 allowed me to go 65mph without the engine sounding like it was going to burst. Also, both my 2-strokes had the three-speed transmission, which I'm sure made for higher rpms at 60 than if I had had the four-speed. I was also perfectly happy to not have to get out of the car on a rainy day to add the oil to the gas at the gas station; or have the can of oil so cold and thick on cold January days that it almost refused to pour from the can! I thought the V-4 was a real advance in its time.

I forgot about suggesting the 95 wagon. My first V-4 was a '68 95 - what a great car, even if it did require premium gas. It was amazing how much I could load into that wagon, and you could even carry 7 adults (well, 5 adults and 2 children truthfully) with that third rear-facing seat. And, the extra weight in the rear of the car from the wagon rear end offset the extra front weight from the heavier V-4 engine, and made the 95 handle more like the 2-stroke 96. The 95 will also amaze your friends, because there is literally nothing else out there that looks like it does. It even has little tail fins!! There's one for sale right now in the SAAB Net 93, 95, 96 etc. classifieds.

Whatever you choose, you'll have a great time!
