Dirk, where in CT are you? One of my best friends lives in New London and I"m down there about once a month with my beloved Harald, a '01 9-3 SE.
I don't know about Maine, but Vermont has tons of my era Saabs, a fair number of classic 900s and even a few older Saabs scooting around but folks just aren't into getting together to talk about their cars. Part of it is the demographics...people here are driving Saabs because they're safe or because they're Swedish, not because they want to toss them on a dyno one weekend to see what their turbos can really do. Nope, here in Vermont, we leave all that to the V-dubbers. :)
The other part of the problem is the do-it-yourselfer aspect of Saabs is pretty much dead from my generation car onward for the average person. While I would poke around under the hoods of the ancient beater VWs I used to own, I wouldn't think of doing that with my 9-3. That shift takes a lot of the chance to talk shop with regular old other Saab owners out of the equation and that's too bad. Maybe that will change as the cars age, maybe not.
Overall, it'd be nice to get something going in Vermont but I'm not planning to live here all that much longer. Hell, I wasn't even planning on being here right now....
