I think I'm changing my own vote, thanks for the understanding mb25. Hard to believe it would be an internal trans problem without prior warning or at least a bad noise. Obviously it's impossible for any of us to diagnose the problem without even seeing the car. Sure be nice to know how the shifter felt or maybe if the trans even had any oil in it.
I think my new vote would be a linkage problem, though certainly the clutch pedal shouldn't have to be at the floor to disengage. If the shifter upgrade kit is $300 I wonder how much additional the saab savior(?) short shifter would be as it already has all the upgrade pieces.
As I've said before, take it to a good Saab indy shop and have them figure it out.
