Thanks for the V6 engine info. I will make a checklist and start running down the list over the next few weeks, probably beginning with the vacuum hoses.

Confession: I did not change the oil pan gasket at home after all of my posts asking for details about the subframe, etc. Hope I don't let anyone down here. Here are the details:

Last weekend I changed the oil and an 02 sensor, and while I was down there I noticed the oil pan gasket leak had gotten really out of hand. It was really bad, multiple big ol' drops sitting around on many places (subframe, exhaust, pan, etc.). I knew this couldn't go on much longer... I was getting afraid of damaging either O2 sensor, or the alternator, or other stuff from the giant oil sprays that were being generated. Also noticed a damaged outer CV boot, so I had to take the car to the dealer for work anyway. (Didn't have time to work on the boot this week and knew time was critical to prevent CV joint damage.) Moreover, my wife had begun to complain repeatedly in the last few weeks about the gigantic oil stains/puddles on the driveway so I just broke down.

Our local "service only" dealer did good work, 4.0 hrs labor for the o.p.g. install, about what I guessed. Seemed fair. Yes, I still could have saved some cash doing it at home. You can pick up a good engine support beam or yoke for $75-$150 online (email me if you want to know where). And Autozone will let you borrow a torque wrench that goes up to 250 lb-ft for the subframe bolts so you don't need to spend $100 on that.

I had been planning the o.p.g. install for 2 months. But since I don't have a garage yet--just a wicked sloped driveway--I could not do it until Memorial Day when I visit my folks again. That seemed like too long, plus they live 2.5 hours from the nearest Saab dealer if we needed any emergency parts, I would have been stranded. (e.g., michael p's past post detailed the bent pan... which retails for $250.) Excuses, excuses, I know.

Anyone who gave me install tips: they will not go to waste! I anticipate doing all three engine and transmission mounts in the next year (or less) so I'll still need the info.

Thanks,

Derek / 1994 900 S V6 141,600mi
