I (and a few others) complained bitterly about this problem 2 1/2 years ago (check the bulletins). Depending on the road camber the 9-3 base (my model) steers excessively to the left or to the right. I did manage to get some technical information out of SAAB Sweden that goes along the lines "the car has front wheels with wide tires, it therefore follows camber in the road". I will see if I can find it and post it. I was certainly insulted by their attitude of lump it or leave it. From new (May 1998) the car has had three complete alignments, with not a jot of difference. 15" versus 16" rims makes no difference, nor do different tires. I spoke with Abbott racing last year, who enticed me with stiffer and lower springs, stiffer sway bar, up-rated bushings and up-rated shocks. If it's an automatic it's worse (Abbott) because of the extra weight compared to the manual box(?). They also recommended an aluminum plate for the steering rack to improve torsional resistance. The cost was about 2,000 sterling, and although my dealer was prepared to go halves, GM Canada (SAAB's boss here in Canada) were having nothing to do with it. The car goes back in April next year, thank goodness. I personally believe that the front end of this car has some serious problems along the lines that the Macpherson strut geometry does not hit the center of the tire/pavement contact. Just a theory, but it's better than SAAB's explanation! I drove a 9-3 SE several weeks ago - for what it's worth it seems to be an improvement over the base 9-3. If you think camber steering is bad on an SE, then try a base 9-3!
