I bought a 2000 base 9-3, but got the leather option package. I find the leather seats are far too hot and sticky in the summer, and too cold in the winter. The seat heaters help the latter, although it still takes a couple of minutes to warm up. Power ventilated seats, such as in the 9-5, would help tremendously in the summer, but Saab does not offer them in the 9-3.
I was sufficiently dissatisfied with the leather seats that I ended up getting a set of custom sheepskin seat covers for the front seats. This is a GREAT material for car seats: cool in the summer, warm in the winter, and incredibly comfortable.
In hindsight, I would have been better off with the cloth seats. I do love the leather steering wheel and shift knob though, but these can be purchased as options independently of the seats.
