Reasonable price for snow tires? Posted by Paul [Email] (#792) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Paul) on Wed, 13 Dec 2000 11:12:21 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I just bought a 2001 9-3 SE and want to get a set of snow tires on steel wheels. I would prefer to buy them locally (I'm in Boston) and have them installed, and I expect to pay a reasonable premium over Tirerack prices for the convenience. Yesterday, Direct Tire quoted me $930 for a set of Nokian Hakkas (185 65 15 on steel wheels with Saab wheel covers) and $900 for a set of mounted Arctic Alpins. Tirerack sells the same Alpin set up for $440 plus shipping. G&G Srevice in Wisconsin sells the Hakka set up for $419. Direct Tire will do the winter/summer changeovers and rebalance the tires for as long as I own the car for free, and their service is generally good, but their pricing seems out of whack on this one. (I wonder if they quoted me a different tire or alloy wheels?) What is a fair price to pay a local dealer for these tires?
