>>One note of caution however: in the doors of my 2000 9-3, the membrane is sealed all the way around and apparently acts as some type of pressure trap for the side air bag sensor. <<
This is TOTALLY FALSE!! Stop spreading incorrect information. The "membrane" is just a weather seal to keep water from leaking down the window and into the door interior. There are some airbag sensors in the doors but they're enclosed in a sealed module. Saab only warns against opening up the doors because you might disconnect the wires leading to the airbag (I'll bet the Government makes them say that). Even if you DID screw up the wires, the first time you turn on the car the "SRS" light on the dash is gonna go on because it has lost communication with the airbag module. The actual airbag itself is contained inside the seat itself.
>>I don't know if the doors of the NG900 have similar construction and side air bag sensors.<<
I can speak from experience after thoroughly ripping the doors apart on my 1995 900 SET that there is a "membrane" there and it serves the same purpose as the 9-3 version. There are NO side airbags on any NG900... Those didn't come til the 1999 9-3 and 9-5.
