Congrats on the new car. Maybe I'm nuts but after I got mine ('01 SE Laser Red) to about 200 miles, I said screw it and started driving it pretty hard (two dealers have also told me that it's OK to get on it pretty good as the ECU needs to learn it's operating parameters, and they also said there really doesnt need ot be a traditional break in period). Not all the way to 6k rpm all the time, but I've been there once or twice. Mostly getting on it up to 5K rpm or so when I'm feeling randy!
As for the shifter, we also have a '99 S, and both cars have been quite nice as far as the shift feel goes. I should mention that both my cars are leased, so I'm not too concerned about getting 200k miles out of the car. I also plan to change to oil at the first 1,000 miles and and very 3k thereafter. Man SAAB's are sweet!
Go SAAB!
