On April 10, my 1999 9-3 was parked on the roof of a parking garage at the St Louis Airport when a super cell thunderstorm that later spouted tornados dropped baseball sized hailstones on the airport heaviily damaging TWA's planes. Upon returning from Sacramento the next day, I saw in my row alone, a Nissan Maxima, an Audi A6, a Mercedes E-Class, and a Lexus ES 300, all with broken front and rear windshields! I felt sick as I appraoched my car but while bruised and battered, she was still road worthy. My 9-3 was heavily damaged with 2" to 1" inch wide dings on the roof, hood and along the door sills, but there wass not one chip in any of its glass surfaces. Considering the expanse of the hatch's glass and my sunroof, this is amazing! My car was pelted with hailstones of 3" to 4" in diameter according the airport weather service. I counted 37 impact craters which seemingly indicate the hailstones were comming straight down at terminal velocity (120MPH). Yet no broken glass.
Therefore, I find your windshield experience to be most bizarre.
So from personal experience with a large hailstone shower, I would say SAAB's saftey glass has tremendous tensile strength and is extremely impact resistant. Can't even venture a guess how your body-flex shattered your windshield?
