The 9-5 is a much better value though it is not as much fun to drive on short trips, it beats the snot out of the 9-3 on long trips. I would take the 9-5, upgrade the OEM tires and maybe chip the 2.3 if you really want more performance. Is the demo a 2001 with 185 HP or a 2000 with 170 HP? I have driven both as loaners as well as the Aero and I still think the best SAAB deal around is a base demo with leather &HK sound (premium package)-you can upgrade to really nice wheels if you care to. ALL of this can be had for 29K to 31K US. That is about the best deal around anywhere. I bought a 99 SE Demo with 3K for 30K in 99 and it has been totally trouble free. The 9-5 is a great ride along the lines of a Lexus or Mercedes. Its ride is on the soft side but in a straight line on the highway where most of us drive, it rocks at 80 to 110 mph. It is effortless to drive whereas the 9-3 is much more stressful with torque steer camber steer and a jiggly ride that never settles down. Road noise in the 9-5 is much less then in the 9-3 which is a 1992 opel-based platform. Buy yourself a 9-5 and then if you still want a real driver's car, wait and trade it in for a NG 9-3. That would be my advice. The 9-5 will hold its value much better than the obsolete 9-3.
