Maintenance and repair items for Saabs from 1996 has been tracking down.
This is no BMW. You should NOT be paying $50 for an oil change. I do my own. I buy CDN$26 worth of Mobil1 and CDN$4.00 for a filter. I also do my own plugs and tire changes.
You should be able to look in your manual and see/estimate when you will definitely be into the dealership for scheduled maintenance. Aside from that, you should figure on a trip or two/year for unscheduled maintenance or picking up stuff you forgot.
I even made a stupid trip, my most embarrasing episode with the Saab. The brake light kept coming on on the dash. Instead of (a) using common sense or (b) checking out the manual, I foolishy went to the dealership (8 miles cross-town). Had I looked in the manual, I would have found that I should look at the brake fluid reservior and SEEN the fluid was low (due to normal wear on the brake pads, therefore requiring more fluid in the system).
Our '99 9-3 (30k miles) has been Toyota-like. The technicians told me when I bought the car I'd rarely be in. They were right.
Once, I went the dealership for a bottle of touch up paint - something I figure ought to be provided with the car. When there, the dealership took a hacksaw to trim the plastic lip/splash panel waaaaaaay underneath the vehicle which caught a curb.
