I too am in a lease (2000 9-3SE auto) that I would like to get out of but have determined that there's really no way without taking a "bath". On a trade-in, I've been told that my car is only worth around $19,500. The $5,000 rebate on the new 9-3 is killing the resale market. However, because you leased the car, selling it to an individual buyer (as opposed to a dealer)is not a good option. Since you don't own the vehicle, you first have to buy it from your leasing company and pay whatever sales tax you must pay in your state. Then you can turnaround and sell it to whomever.

Before I leased the Saab I had a Honda Accord. I sold the Accord to CarMax and got $1,000 more than I was offered from several new car dealers. If you have CarMax where you live you might want to get it appraised. Good luck.
