I have 195/60R15's on steel rims for my winter tires and 205/50R16's for my summer tires on a base 1999 9-3 5 door. I have also driven a number of 9-3's with the standard 195/60R15's on alloys. There is a noticable improvement in handling with the 16" wheels, I have Michelin Pilot HX tires, the type of tire can be as big factotr as well. There is a noticable increase in bump steer, i.e. the cars follows ruts in the road and the wheel tends to get pulled about in your hands a bit more then with the 15" setup but for me the added precision and cornering power more then offet this negatice effect. The 17" wheel , as on the Viggen, which I have also driven as a loaner for a few days, offers even more of both the positive and negatives effects. It is also much more prone to damage due to potholes, etc and the tires are more expensive to replace. I think the 205/50R16 is a good compromise.
