I put bad gas in my 9-3 one time. The way I knew that it was bad gas was that I could not get any boost betyond base boost. I ran through the tank and the performance was the same, I was even concerned that I had blown my BPC valve. When I refilled with 93 octane from my usual place, I got my boost back over the next day or so. The engine was limiting the boost to protect the engine with the bad gas. I guess that if you always buy gas at the same place, you should be OK with a boost controller, but I can't help thinking that tank of bad gas could have damaged my engine if I had bypassed a safety device trying to get more performance.
