I might be flamed for this, but here is why I chose the Viggen.
First off, value. The BMW 330 just seemed to be about $5k more than I thought it should be when stacked next to the competition (Viggen, Lexus IS, Mercedes C-Class, Audi S4). You can't survive on a "base" 330. Cruise control isn't even standard. There was a good prior review about the BMW. I agree, it is a better car, but not a better value.
Second, I needed a car that wasn't associated with an "image". I design car dealerships, so they do pay attention too what I drive. The Mercedes screams expensive, the BMW snobish, the Audi trendy, etc. Do to Saab marketing, or lack thereof, Saab has no such image unless you count "quirky hatchback" and the real car guys recognize the Viggen for what it really is (a limited production factory tuner).
A BMW guy gave me some good advise when I was shopping; he told me "the Viggen is a driver's car that takes skill to master, the BMW on the other hand takes little driver skill to master and will make your mama proud when you buy it."
I've always been the difficult child,
Chris Fisher
