Well I looked at the car (see "looking at 99 9-3 S...") and I'm quite pleased but there is one item I'd like to get your insight on.
The alarm system doesn't seem to work. It seems to arm with no sound and locks the doors. Lights flash when arming but no activation by shaking car or arming then opening window, unlocking door (reaching in) and opening door. Held the arm switch for a few seconds and lights flash but no sound. When starting the car the message display thing (that you folk call by its real acronym) says "theft deterrent system requires service". I'm not going to make this lot fix the problem so I'd like to know how much it's going to cost to repair or at least what the likely suspects are.
Here's why I'm not having them fix the thing. It's actually at a Saturn dealership and they don't bargain. From what I've seen I'm getting a very good deal even with the alarm problem. That is in comparisons to other cars for sale in this area and a nation wide search on Autotrader.com
You be the judge though... $14,500 for the following:
99 9-3 S with 49K on the odo., *no* sunroof, bright red with few rock chips, tan leather in nice condition. 5 speed. Heated seats, cruise, CD player and newer tires (70%). Everything works as it should except for the alarm. Very slight steering wheel shake. I'm having them balance the tires. The Saab has a clean Carfax record showing that it is a one owner lease vehicle with no accidents (from Michigan) and the service book shows the owner kept up with the service. I went over the entire car with a magnifying glass and magnet too just for good measure. Blasted the A/C and heat. Max acceleration (with salesman) and max deceleration. Impressive braking! Let car run for 30 minutes and no visible leaks. Brake pads look pretty fat too.
So for $14,500 what do you think? Hopefully there is a simple fix for the alarm.
Thanks so much for the replies to my previous message!
Cheers
