Thanks, Carlos. I never thought of myself as a "Saab audio expert", but I guess I have picked up some expertise from the process of installing my amp and speakers. All of this was gained by gathering information from many other people on this board and from using some basic knowledge from my engineering background. I am happy to share what I have learned because others here were kind enough to help me.
While this is my first Saab, as I understand it, the radio code that you had to re-enter after diconnecting the battery was only needed with the head units used on older Saabs (NG900 models and earlier). Beginning with the 9-3, there is no radio code for the owner to enter, but a Saab technician must "marry" the head unit to the car using the Tech II computer diagnostic tool. I know this for a fact because my Saab originally came with the the radio/CD head unit and I had it swapped out for the radio/cassette head unit. When the new head unit arrived, the dealer had to remove the old head unit and use the Tech II to get my 9-3 to recognize the new head unit. So you are correct, if someone stole your head unit, they would not be able to use it in another Saab without having access to a Tech II unit. I guess this is another one of the anti-theft features of the Saab.
The amp I used is the MTX 2120 Road Thunder amp. I think this model has been discontinued, but is still available from various sources here in the United States (such as http://www.crutchfield.com, although I do not know if they will ship to Spain). While it is officially listed as a 40Wx2 amp, I found that each MTX amp is tested separately and MTX includes a sheet stating the actual power of that particular amp. In my case, the sheet said my amp tested out at 50Wx2. Any good quality amp should work, but as I have said in previous posts, if you want to install it in the same location as the Saab amp, it cannot be much more than 2" (or 5.1cm) thick. The MTX 2120 is 6"x9"x2" (or about 15.25cm x 22.87cm x 5.1cm). I do not know of MTX audio products are available in Spain, but perhaps you have brands there that we do not have here.
Unfortunately, I have not had the pleasure of visiting Spain. My one and only trip to Europe involved visits to England, Iceland, and Norway. I would enjoy visiting Spain some day. That way, I could see how much I remember from several years of studying spanish in high school. Yo hablo un poco espanol. :-)
