Your post is hilarious. You nailed the problem exactly. GM over-contents vehicles with insane amounts of cutting-edge technology that barely works right. Classic example: MagnaSteer. Great concept, bad execution. It's dead on-center and has been for years and years and years and years. Will they ever fix it? You bet they will. Exactly one year before they cancel it, they'll get it right. By then, they'll have destroyed its reputation, and further damaged their own.

GM will stuff 100 new technologies into a car rather than simply make it handle decently and stay put together. They're capable of great engineering -- look at the Corvette or any of their high-end transmissions. World class stuff. Then look at the Rendezvous or Asstek, or indeed 90% of their product line. Utterly forgettable.

I agree with you that GM is genetically included to brand-manage Saab by stuffing unwanted, untested technologies into it, giving it a few poorly-executed styling cues, and then calling it a "Saab" despite the fact that it's 95% Pontiac and built in Mexico. I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it. As long as GM keeps its grubby hands off Honda, I'll be happy. ;P
