OK, my 99 9-3's still got some lag, a little hesitation and the fan comes on far more often than normal. Also, upon decelerating in a given gear, I can hear what sounds to me like mild detonation (fast, soft metallic tapping sound).

I verified that the mech. used the Saab spec. ngk's (saab spec's and carries bpr 7's, but I've read here to use bpr 6's) and I've replaced the fuel filter.

As I'm not getting any noxious gas odor on stop, I've pretty much eliminated the charcoal filter (For those who've read my earlier posts, I've done a little bit of homework, but I'm basically just knowledgable to jump to conclusions and work to eliminate them). I suppose it could be one of the sensors in the gasline EPA device malfunctioning and causing the ECU to read the wrong mix. This, presumably, would be bad.

On the other hand, would using bpr7's as Saab specs i/0 bpr6's as others on this board have suggested cause detonation and the fan to come on all the time?

I'm guessing that the two are related b/c the cabin thermostat reads normal, coolant levels are normal, but the engine bay really feels hot (to both me and, apparently, the engine fan trigger). To me, this suggests detonation causes localized heat by on the top of the engine that's not picked up by the system thermostat. If its detonation, it also suggests that I'm down to plugs and the DI as my remaining causes for what is probably arcing or misfiring.
