I am a sale rep at Charles River Saab in Boston. Here's the full scoop:

We pay Saab $1350 to purchase the warranty extension. The Service department charges Sales $350 to do the 110 point inspection, PLUS any costs not covered by the original new car warranty (tires, bent wheels, brakes, wiper blades, body work, etc.) Therefor, we count on a $2000 mark-up on a certified car vs the same car not certified. Personally, I've been burned by selling a car as certified prior to the inspection and work being done. We've wound up losing money that way in some cases. The anticipated additional profit due to certification is negligible, around $100 usually.

If the 110 point inspection was done, the car SHOULD be in nearly new condition. The certification guide is very explicit as to the inspection standards. The cut-offs for brake & tire wear, interior and exterior condition are only a slight bit more stringent than CRS's regular used car standards. You should get a copy of the inspection report when you buy a Certified Used Saab.

The primary benefits are peace of mind on the condition of the car (a CarFax check is required as well as the inspection) and the benefit of the 72 month/100K factory warranty with Roadside Assistance.

If you're still looking for a Certified 9^3, contact me directly via email or phone @ 617.923.9230.

Hope this helps!
