I've owned new cars made by several manufacturers. I've never experienced the premature brake wear that has been mentioned by numerous contributors to this bulletin board with any vehicle other than my 2000 9-3.
When this happened to me, I took the matter right to SAAB USA in GA. They were able to work with my dealer and make matters right by me by replacing the brake pads under warranty.
I can't believe that everyone who owns a SAAB rides their brakes! In my opinion, the failure rate seems way too high to be caused solely by the driver's excess wear and tear. It seems obvious to me that SAAB needs to address the issue of premature brake wear in the old 9-3 model. Hopefully the issue was fixed by the supplier of brake pads to the new 9-3's.
All new cars have problems, even SAAB's. To me, the problem is not the brake wear itself, it's how SAAB USA and the various dealers take care of the customer when it happens. I hope SAAB gives others the same excellent service they gave me without them having to complain too much.
