is a 1 metre rule regarding pedestrians and bicyclists. If a motor vehicle hits a pedestrian or bicyclist (even if the pedestrian is jay-walking or the bicyclist is riding the wrong way on a one way street) there is hell to pay for the driver. My wife and I have logged many kilometers on our bikes in Germany, France, Italy and Spain - we have never been given the finger, honked at only when there was bicycle path close by (not seen by us but we figured there must be something when a transport truck tooted and put his indicator on then turned it off on a straight road (how is that for attention while you are driving). I do agree that in the urban areas things can get a bit rougher as cars get parked on the wrong side of the street - any place the driver can fit it in (seen a "Smart" car nose ito the curb lately??). Point taken about our NA pastime of NASCAR, dirt racing and drags. But we are talking about the general capability of a driver on a major highway - NA lags behind (actually stuck behind the elderly gent in the left lane doing 40!) Once again only my 2 cents worth
