Not sure I understand your logic. Money paid in the future cost less than money paid today.
Either way you take a hit on the depreciation (if buying new). With a lease you pay no interest on the residual value of the car for the term of the lease, plus you pay no sales tax up front.
With the low lease rate that I got on my 02 9-3 combined with a low capitalized price, it was way better than financing. They practically gave the car away ;) Plus, I have a pre-negotiated buyer already in place and I choose whether to sell the car to said buyer at the end of the term. Plus, I get gap coverage included and the deal never happened if the car is totalled (this is why you don't want to place a big down payment on a lease).
More than likely I will buy the car at the end of the term anyway.
Of course, it always comes down to the numbers in the contract, but some of the lease deals out there can be fantastic even if buying out at the end.
