Had rear facing Britax--caused leather to tear

We just purchases a 2000 SE turbo hatchback. I have a toddler who is under 30 pounds, so I put the carseat in rearfacing. Husband drives reclined, I drive upright--long story short, the car seat made a small tear in the back of the driver seat and a nick in the passaenger seat. Husband blames me and insisted I put car seat front facing. I can't seem to get it secure enough--I used the anchor in the middle of the back seat-- and don't know where to begin looking for leather repair. Anyone have a similiar situation and can offer some suggestions so that the car seat doesn't ruin the upholstery? Will this be an easy repair on the seat, or will it be an obvious flaw? Please someone give me some good news--husband is so pissed off at me for ruining the car after only 4 days that he is sleeping on the couch! I guess that is more important than his son's safety....
