I thought the back of the seats were vinyl. Are they not? If they are there are vinyl repair kits real cheap from many stores. I would go to a fabric store and ask about one. If it is leather, it might be a little more difficult, a leather repair shop probably could advise best.
Secondly, put a towel under the car seat to prevent any future tears in the leather from the sharp edges of the car seat.
Thirdly, husband should spend more time on couch (in front of therapist) if he places value of leather seat over safety of your child.
