With the coming of the wet weather I was reminded that my $30,000 9-3 leaks through the sunroof drain hole! The (A-pillar?) frame on the drivers side gets SOAKED. So, I followed the advise of an earlier thread on this topic, and I plugged the drain hole with plumbers putty.
COOL! A couple rainstorms later, DRY. So, I get in my car today (it rained all day), and I feel my nice dry A-pillar (I like to bask in the warmth of my successes for a while). YES, nice and dry. As I back out of my parking spot, a stream of water pours out of the corner of the sunroof closest to the plugged drain. And of course, it is the corner of the sunroof directly over my head. Most unpleasant!
So, the moral of this story is, "When fixing one problem, we sometimes create another." Or, "Don't 'fix' the leaky drain hole problem by plugging it with plumbers putty unless you like to take a shower in your clothes while sitting in the drivers seat of your $30,000 Sob on a cold rainy day."
I hope this long story hasn't distracted anyone from my real question about this. I NEED ANSWERS! Does anyone know what exactly is the cause of this problem? Where does the drain hole go? Is there a tube inside the A-pillar? Does it attach to a little barbed nipple or something at the bottom of the drain hole? So, has a little tube popped loose inside my A-pillar?
How does one FIX (not bandaid, patch, putty... FIX) this? Does the A-pillar cover just somehow pop off? If I can get to it, I can fix it! How do you get inside the A-pillar?
Thanks,
Dan
