How do you know he was flooring it? Also, he probably didn't shift manually from 1 to 2 since he has an automatic That may have helped his acceleration. Is yours an automatic also? I bet you the Grand Am has better launch acceleration due to a larger 3.4L displacement (without having to wait even a second for turbo spool up), and based on my experience, the domestic GMs have nearly instant throttle response. I'm sure you would have smoked him beyond 45 mph, but if you check 0-60 times, I think the Grand Am GT does it in the low sevens. The 9-3 SE is closer to eight seconds I think.
