If they take it to a referee station that will be fine, because as I understand, the referee station will affix a label or something that basically exempts the car from the readiness checks in the future.
If they hack into the computer to reset the codes, or simply somehow illegally bypass the checks then I am OK for this time, but faced with the same hassle next time it needs to be smogged.
A question for you, Anders: is it possible to replace the Motronic computer with a more modern unit that works properly (or better)?
